My boyfriend calls me all the time on my cell. Caring or Creepy?

My bf doesn't like to go out much. Whenever I do go out with my girlfriends he always calls me (sometimes multiple times in the same night) which really interupts our catching up time. If I turn off my phone or put it on vibrate (like during a movie) and don't return his call right away, he gets all weird and s/times starts calling repeatedly & leaves tons of mesages. When I talk to him about it, he says he's just worried about my safety when I get dressed up and go out b/c i live in a kinda rough part of town. Thing is ... he also does this when I go to the gym or even when I'm out with my twin brother. I try to include my bf the best I can with my family & friends but he doesn't seem to like them (esp my bro) which bugs me. I must say my bf is great when we're alone together - very giving, supportive & attentive. How concerned should I be?
